During the late fifties and early sixties, radio disk jockeys played a major role in promoting rock and roll to the masses.
There were rogue disk jockeys operating out of low budget radio stations who were anti-establishment and embraced rock and roll as a way to thumb their noses at the conservative elements of society.
The teenagers of that time embraced those radio outliers and the rock and roll music which they perceived as an anthem for change.
